Course Syllabus

1. TITLE OF COURSE: CSY1701 - Introduction to Tablet PC Technology
2. COURSE DESCRIPTION: This course is designed to introduce students to Tablet PC technology. Topics covered will include identifying what this technology is, identifying various types of Tablet PCs and their capabilities, exploring the components of Tablet PCs, and exploring operating systems and application software for Tablet PCs. For each unit of credit, a minimum of three hours per week with one of the hours for class and two hours for studying/preparation outside of class is expected.
3. PROGRAM AND/OR DEPARTMENT MISSION STATEMENT: The CIS Program will provide superior learning opportunities in the area of information technology, utilizing state-of-the-art technology, for both CIS majors and non CIS majors to enable all students to achieve their career and/or educational goals.
4. TEXTBOOK AND MATERIALS:
   • Textbook will be selected when course is offered.
5. SCCC/ATS OUTCOMES: Students who successfully complete this course will demonstrate the ability to do the following SCCC/ATS Outcomes:
   • Outcome #1 - Read with comprehension, be critical of what they read, and apply knowledge gained to real life situations.
   • Outcome #5 - Demonstrate the ability to think critically by gathering facts, generating insights, analyzing data, and evaluating information.
   • Outcome #6 - Utilize current technology relevant to their respective disciplines.
   • Outcome #9 - Exhibit workplace skills that include respect for others, teamwork competence, attendance/punctuality, decision making, conflict resolution, truthfulness/honesty, positive attitude, judgment, and responsibility.
6. COURSE OUTCOMES: Upon completion of the Introduction to Tablet PC Technology course with a 80% or higher mastery of course competencies, the student should be able to:
   • Evaluate different type Tablet PC devices
   • Identify Tablet PC hardware and software
   • Identify the various uses of a Tablet PC

   • Components of Tablet PCs (Hardware)
   • Software applications available for Tablet PCs
   • Trends for future Tablet PCs
8. INSTRUCTIONAL METHODS:
   • Classroom lecture
   • Classroom discussion
   • Handouts, Internet research
   • Demonstrations using overhead computer projection panel
   • Instructors will enforce the Academic Honor Code & Cheating Policy as set forth in the SCCC/ATS College Catalog. Students who fail to adhere to this policy will receive an F for the course final grade unless otherwise stated in the instructor's course policies.

   • Various applications for Tablet PCs
10. METHODS OF ASSESSMENT:SCCC/ATS Outcomes #1, #5, #6, & #9 will be measured by the following:
    • Hands-on lab assignments in basic Tablet PC operations
    • Hands-on assignments exploring the basic software applications for the Tablet PC
    • Internet research assignments exploring additional software applications for the Tablet PC
    • Internet research assignments of trends in Tablet PC technology.
